Accounting Clerk Certificate Program

The Accounting Clerk Certificate Program is a one-year program designed to provide basic training in accounting procedures which will enable students to qualify for clerking level accounting jobs.

The courses offered at West Valley College include a computer component designed to give the students working knowledge of the way accounting is done in today's technological environment.

For those students interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree, the department offers Accounting 10 and Accounting 11 which are transferable to most of the four-year schools in California for both accounting degrees and general business degrees. Students wishing to transfer should meet with a counselor regarding transfer requirements of specific courses.

Most of the jobs in the accounting field can be segregated into a "professional level" and a "clerking level". The professional level typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting. The clerking level typically requires basic training in accounting procedures. Those with a bachelor's degree in accounting will also be qualified for numerous "non-accounting" jobs in banking, marketing, finance, and management.
