President's Message

The WVC Academic Senate remains committed to our students and our community by striving to maintain a tradition of excellence. The Academic Senate continues to provide direction on academic and professional matters. To meet this goal, it is imperative that faculty assume leadership positions and participate fully in committees.

Following are just a few of the many challenges the Academic Senate will begin to address duirng Fall 2007:

  • Accreditation and Student Learning Outcomes
  • Curriculum committee guidelines, policy, and process
  • Institutionalization of student retention
  • Early basic skills initiatives and coursework completion
  • Ensuring participatory governance
  • Title 5 changes
  • Student equity and coalition for student success
  • Cultural diversity degree requirement and curriculum development
  • Green campus initiative
  • Facility projects on campus

As we welcome our new Senators for the 2007-08 academic year, I want to personally thank the Academic Senators who served during the last two years. They have made a significant difference and have strengthened our legacy of leadership, courage, and vision.
