Program Information
The Computer and Information Systems Department at West Valley College offers a complete computer curriculum using state-of-the-art computing equipment. Students may choose a Business Applications option or Computer Science option (A.S. Degree or Certificate). The West Valley College counselors will aid in choosing the option that best meets the student's needs.
The department's curriculum is grouped into four areas of interest. For those interested in general knowledge about computers and their applications, the Department offers introductory classes. These classes are often required for advanced study in business or other degrees and may be transferred to four-year colleges. A second area of emphasis is Business Applications where the emphasis is on the development of computer information systems within organizations. The third area is Computer Science, focusing on the study of programming languages and computer operations.
Career Opportunities
The general skills developed in computing also apply across most fields of employment where the computer is used as a tool.
