The Outreach team at West Valley College serves prospective students and existing students by introducing them to information and resources that will help improve their college experience and help eliminate obstacles to educational opportunity. We share information on college planning, admission requirements, degree and certificate programs, guaranteed transfer programs, financial aid, campus life, student services, and much more.

High School Outreach

Our Outreach team directly reaches high school students and their parents, in close cooperation with high school career counselors, to help high school students make a successful transition to college. We give workshop presentations to share valuable information about planning for college, and provide prearranged campus tours. We also promote West Valley College programs designed specifically for high school students who wish to enroll concurrently in high school and college, or wish to complete their West Valley College orientation and assessment testing while still in high school.

  • Early Admissions (EA): The EA program brings West Valley College orientation and assessment testing directly to high school seniors at 15 area high schools. Participating seniors earn college credit (1/2 unit), free of charge, and are given the opportunity to register for classes prior to high school graduation, with priority status. Contact your high school career counselor to find out if your school is an EA participant, and to get more information about program dates and enrollment procedures.

  • Concurrent Enrollment (CE): The CE program enables eligible high school students to earn college credit for courses taken at the college (up to 6 units per semester) while they are still enrolled in high school. To be eligible, high school students must be at least 16 years of age and have completed the 10th grade by the first day of college. Stop by the Admissions and Records Office to complete a paper admissions application and a concurrent enrollment form. Special approval signatures and additional documentation will be required.

  • Workshops & Campus Tours: Throughout the year, we provide workshops to high school students and their parents to share valuable information about planning for college and financial aid opportunities. We also provide prearranged tours to groups of high school students, customized to address their individual interests and concerns. Contact your high school career counselor for information on upcoming scheduled events.

Community Outreach

In an effort to extend the benefits of education to all, we reach out to members of the community whose financial needs and/or life circumstances have presented additional challenges in pursuing their educational goals. We work with community organizations to offer college planning and financial aid workshops, give prearranged campus tours to organization members, and provide informational exhibits at community events. Organizations interested in our services should email or phone (408.741.2672) our office.

Student In-Reach

We also reach inward to our existing students, to ensure they are aware of the programs and services available to them. We give classroom presentations and share information at various on-campus events throughout the year. Students are welcome to stop by our office with any individual questions or needs.
