Academic Advising: Athletes

As a student athlete, you have to balance practice, team meets and games with your studies, which can be hard. Our counselors in the Physical Education Department will help make it easier for you to win off the field. Working with you, they will:

  • Create Individualized Education Plans each semester based on skill levels, previous course work, grade point average and personal goals.
  • Schedule early Orientation and Registration for classes for you.
  • Review academic, graduation, transfer and athletic eligibility requirements with you individually and through Team Registration Workshops held each semester prior to registration.
  • Monitor NCAA and NAIA regulations for transfer to university level competition. We encourage you to complete the Associate Degree, which includes the 48 transferable units required by universities, and to maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.00.
  • Help you qualify for Scholar Athletic Awards if you maintain a 3.00 grade point average or better in nine or more academic units.
  • Offer drop-in counseling for individual advising.
  • Connect you to free tutoring on any subject you need—Math, Reading, English—or lead you to one of our Tutoring Labs.
  • Schedule an assessment with a professional Learning Specialist to determine possible learning disabilities and if you need support classes offered to learning disabled students.
  • Sign you up for Study Skills and Career Planning Courses
