SUCCESS Program

African Americans and students from other ethnicities often get left behind on the road to higher education. Our goal is to turn that around. Through a series of courses, tutoring, counseling, and access to scholarships, we are trying o increase our students’ chances of staying in college, graduating, and, of course, paving that road to a four-year university.

Counseling

If you meet at least three times with Carolyn, our SUCCESS Director, throughout the semester, she’ll help you:

• create educational plans
• track course and transferring progress
• keep up to date with activities

Instruction

The courses offered by the Program focus around the African American experience.

• English 905 - English Fundamentals (Fall semester)
• English 1A - English Composition (Spring semester)
• Couns1,5, or 12B
• Math 106 and 10

Tutorial Services

Scholarships

You could qualify for a SUCCESS scholarship. Find out about it and other grants and scholarships at Financial Aid.

Campus Tours

We take our students to visit campuses like UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley, San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, and San Francisco State University.

Mentoring

We’ll match you with a mentor from one of the top corporations in the bay area as well as West Valley staff and faculty.

Transfer

Our Transfer Center works hard to place African American students at UC, CSU, and private universities throughout the country.
