What health services may students receive at West Valley College?

1. Treatment of injuries or illness

2. Accident Insurance coverage for injuries that occur on campus

3. Education and Counseling on a wide variety of health and wellness issues

4. Nurse Practitioner visits by appointment; some low cost prescription medications

5. Personal Counseling by appointment

6. Low cost immunizations

7. Self Care Medications

8. Screening Tests - Laboratory Tests


Activities by health services staff to benefit all students:

1. Participate with campus Safety and Facilities Advisory Committee, charged with maintaining a safe and healthy campus environment.

2. Collaborate with other campus programs and departments to support students with special health concerns.

3. Provide resources for obtaining individual supplemental health insurance.

4. Assist individual students in making connections on and off campus with programs/resources of need and interest.

5. Participate in Community Services Learning, a site for student volunteers.

6. Participate in Interdisciplinary Learning to integrate health and wellness themes into a variety of academic areas.


Exemptions - Students exempted from the health fee are:

1. Students who depend exclusively on prayer for healing in accordance with the teachings of a bona fide religious sect, denomination or organization

2. Students who are attending a community college under an approved apprenticeship training program (Ed Code Section 76355.) Any student who either requests an exemption of the health fee or is determined by a Student Services program to warrant review for exemption will be referred to the Financial Aid Director of the respective college. The Financial Aid Director and at least one Financial Aid supervisor/technician will review these requests on a case by case basis.
