Vicky Galindo – Head Coach

Vicky Galindo will bring a wealth of experience and playing knowledge to the position of head coach at West Valley College.

Her experience spans from a successful collegiate career at Cal to the National Pro Fast Pitch League, to the USA National Softball team and the Olympic Games.

As a member of the USA National Team, Galindo represented the United States during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China where she won a silver medal. She was also a member of the national team for the 2007 World Cup and Pan American Games.

Galindo helped guide the national team to a gold medal at the 2006 World Championships that were held in Beijing. In 2005, she earned a gold medal at the Pan Am qualifier and helped the team to a silver medal in the inaugural World Cup.

Also in 2005, Galindo led the Cal Golden Bears to the Women’s College World Series. She was a first team All-America, a first team Easton All-America, a Pac-10 Conference honoree and a Player of the Year candidate.

In 2004, Galindo and the Bears were WCWS runner-ups. The third baseman earned WCWS All-Tournament honors as well as first team All-America honors, first team Easton All-America honors, first team All-Region honors and second team All-Pac-10 honors. She also joined the USA Schutt Elite Team in 2004, guiding the team to championships in the Canada Cup and the Champions Cup. That same year she was on the national team that won a silver medal at the Japan Cup.

Since finishing her eligibility at Cal in 2005, she has played for the National Pro Fast Pitch team, the Chicago Bandits. With the Bandits she was named to the NPF All-Star team from 2005-07.

Prior to playing for Cal, Galindo played a year at West Valley College in San Jose, Calif. She led the team to the 2002 State Championship title. For her efforts, Galindo earned All-American honors and was a first team All-League selection.

Jake Mckenzie – Assistant Coach

Assistant Coach

Jake McKenzie returns for his sixth year as West Valley softball’s Assistant Coach. McKenzie is responsible for outfield defense for the Vikings. He brings over 20 years of softball coaching experience ranging from travel ball, high school and the junior college ranks.

McKenzie came to West Valley College in 2011 to help Coach Galindo-Piatt rebuild the softball program. Prior to West Valley, he was an Assistant Coach for two seasons at Fremont High. McKenzie also has head coaching experience as he manned the helm for three seasons at Mountain View High.

A native of Pearl City, Hawaii, McKenzie has two daughters, Elina and Enika, and five grandchildren. He resides in San Jose and works as a supervisor at Home Depot. In his spare time, he plays competitive and recreational softball, which he has done for over 30 years.

Gene Clements

Recruiting Coordinator

Gene Clements returned for his second stint at West Valley in 2013 to help out Coach Galindo-Piatt. He is responsible for recruiting and advanced scouting of opponents. Clements was a long-time assistant coach at West Valley in his first stint from 1988-2004 and was on the coaching staff for both State Championships.

A native of Santa Clara, he rejoined the West Valley softball program after being an assistant at De Anza. Clements also coached five seasons of travel ball.
