Welcome to the home page for the Sports Medicine Department at West Valley College, Saratoga, CA. Under the direction of the team physician, John Kao, MD., the West Valley College Sports Medicine staff provides comprehensive medical services to 13 intercollegiate teams and over 300 student-athletes.
Two full time Certified Athletic Trainers and staff Student Athletic Trainers provide education, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and referral to the student-athletes that attend West Valley College.
The mission of the West Valley College Sports Medicine Team is to utilize current & effective assessment skills, and to educate all student-athletes on the importance of a sound prehabilitation program to help prevent injury. It is also the mission of this team to empower all student-athletes to become active members in assuming the responsibility of proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, and maximal effort throughout the treatment and rehabilitation process in our department.
Where to Find Us
The Sports Medicine facility is located in the locker rooms of the Physical Education Department, and is open from 11:00 am – 6:30pm Monday through Friday, during the fall and spring semesters.
Who is Eligible for Service
Sports Medicine services are provided to enrolled In-Season student-athletes representing West Valley College. Out-of-Season student-athletes must contact their coach, regarding the need for an evaluation by our medical staff. Due to Liability issues, as employees of the West Valley College/Mission District, the sports medicine department will not evaluate PE class students, faculty & staff, or high school students (minors). Care will only be given to student-athletes that have been cleared by a current health screening examination by our team physician.
