The Interior Design program is comprised of a comprehensive, professional curriculum that provides courses focusing on the basic and vital aspects of interior design. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on the fundamental relationship of interior design, architecture, and the visual and decorative arts. The program prepares students to become professional interior designers who identify, research, and creatively solve problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment.

Interior designers perform services including design analysis, programming, schematic design and space planning, design development, and design documentation and specification, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building codes, finishes, furnishings, equipment, and sustainable practices. Along with aesthetics, the primary goal of interior design is to enhance and protect the health, safety, and well-being of those who occupy the built environment. The Interior Design program provides students the opportunity to engage in related inquiry and learning on the path to becoming viable members of the interior design professional community.

The Interior Design program, within the Cilker School of Art and Design, is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). In the accreditation site visit report, the visiting team noted:

“Student work… is extraordinary. Students are clearly ready for work in the field, clearly evidence a superior development of competency in drawing, presentational design, materials application and relevant architectural requirements. The organization of the presented work is collectively strong, evidencing the clear and coherent structure of the certificate and degree. Likewise, the individual student portfolio and project presentations were thoughtfully developed, neatly presented, and professional in their overall appearance."
