MUSC 001H: Honors Music History: Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque Periods

Course Description

This course is a survey of music history and literature from antiquity to 1750, including cultural, intellectual, and social influences. The instructor provides an in-depth examination of the development of Western European music through analyzing and synthesizing historical details and stylistic elements of the musical trends of the era. Honors Music History uses the pedagogical methods common to all Honors courses: writing-intensive, collaborative, and experiential instruction. As an honors course, there is a focus on analytical writing and exploring the field through reading primary source research.
