Course Description
This course provides public land agency personnel, outdoor leaders, guides, and wilderness travelers with the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the basic principles of emergency medical care for both urban and wilderness environments. This certification course consists of the Federal DOT First Responder curriculum with modifications and additional protocols to meet the specific needs of emergency medical care in remote environments. Certification upon successful course completion includes West Valley College-PM’s “First Responder” and “Wilderness First Responder” and American Heart Association’s “CPR for the Healthcare Provider” or American Red Cross’ “CPR for the Professional Rescuer.”
