Integrated ESL: Low-Intermediate Level

Certificate of Competency

This integrated program provides instruction in English and cross-cultural skills for non-native speakers through speaking, listening, reading, writing, and building knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and American culture and civics. Topics include concepts related to home, family, school, work, community, daily living, civic operations, and authentic task-based activities. Students who complete this certificate are ready for academic ESL.

Upon successful completion of this program a student will be able to:

  • Perform low intermediate language and life skills through the use of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in American English and have the option to transfer to academic ESL instruction or continue in life skills and civics instruction.
