Processes

West Valley College’s preparation process for the Accreditation Self-Study and Reaffirmation of 2014 began in the spring of 2012.   The West Valley College Accreditation Steering Committee, led by the Accreditation Co-Chairs, began its work at this time and this group continues to engage in a consistent and participative preparation process on behalf of the college.

The 2014 Accreditation Self-Study preparation process has been the most inclusive and widely engaged in process in the college’s history because it has involved faculty, staff, students, and administrators from across the campus community.  There has been a great deal of  support and leadership from each of the participatory governance groups, as well as from the constituency groups.  This level of participation has resulted in a process which was inclusive, transparent, and engaging.

The West Valley College Accreditation Steering Committee Standard Co-Chairs organized writing teams who wrote thoughtful and well researched responses in their specific standard areas.  The writing process provided the campus community with the opportunity to tell the college's story of a successful student centered learning environment which is focused on teaching, learning, and student success.

As the Self-Study was written, it was carefully checked and edited in order to achieve the highest levels of accuracy, completeness, and attention to details.  The Accreditation Co-Chairs engaged in an extensive review of the entire document and all of the evidence to ensure that the writing is in one voice and that all of the evidence is correct.

First and second drafts of the document were sent to the college community for their feedback and suggestions.  The community's meaningful and relevant input was incorporated into the final version of the Self-Study to ensure transparency and inclusiveness.

The Accreditation Co-Chairs submitted the final Self-Study report to the College Council and the Board of Trustees for their approval prior to submitting the report to ACCJC.  The Accreditation Co-Chairs provided the Board of Trustees with a presentation about the importance of Accreditation and highlighted the college's positive and compelling story of student learning and student success.
