Biography

Byung-Woo Kim is the founder and Music Director of CPYO. He is currently an adjunct faculty member at West Valley College Music Department. Former concertmaster of the San Jose Symphony and the Julliard Symphony. Mr. Kim has served on the faculties of the San Francisco International Summer Music Festival, the National Music Camp of Interlochen, Summer Music Monterey, and Santa Clara University. As a violin soloist he has performed with the San Jose Cleveland Ballet Orchestra, the San Jose Symphony, and the Master Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra. His chamber music appearances include the complete Beethoven sonatas for the Beethoven Center at San Jose State University. Since 1997 he has participated as a judge for the Irving M. Klein International String Competition. He has participated in the Farberman’s Conductors Institute in New York and the International Academy of Advanced Conducting with Dr. Leonid Korchmar. Mr. Kim holds master’s degrees from both the Julliard School of Music and the University of Michigan, and he continued further studies in the doctoral program at the University of Southern California.
