Gift from Arthur Wang and Christina Qu Fuels Transformational Learning Space at West Valley College

Saratoga, California, January 31, 2025 —Silicon Valley philanthropists Arthur Wang and Christina Qu expand upon their longtime support of West Valley College with a generous donation to support the College’s new Learning Resource Commons.

In recognition of the family’s generous donations totaling $1.7 million, the West Valley-Mission Community College District will name its newly renovated facility at West Valley College the Wang & Qu Family Learning Resource Commons.Exterior shot of Learning Resource Commons building with Wang and Qu naming

“We are happy to support West Valley College because of its importance for our community,” said Arthur Wang, Silicon Valley philanthropist. “It provides many opportunities for our students. Our family is proud of our longtime affiliation with the College.”

In 2013, Arthur Wang and Christina Qu established the David Wang Educational Endowment to provide a source of annual funding for Mental Health Services and the Disability and Educational Support Program. In 2017, they funded the Arthur Wang and Christina Qu Science Garden, which serves as an innovative outdoor classroom for the biology department at West Valley College. This latest gift will help fund innovative new programs and establish an endowment for the future needs of the Learning Resource Commons.

“We are incredibly thankful to Arthur Wang and Christina Qu for their steadfast commitment to promoting higher education and continued partnership with West Valley College,” said Dr. Jennifer Taylor-Mendoza, President of West Valley College. “Their philanthropic giving represents community and is a potent symbol of the lasting impact they will have on West Valley students, as it provides an innovative, collaborative learning commons space.”

Set to open in January 2026, the Wang and Qu Family Learning Resource Commons will encompass 59,134 square feet of space, offering students access to cutting-edge facilities including an expansive library, digital media center, TV and recording studios, a writing center, a tutoring center, makerspaces, and more—creating an environment where collaboration and academic success thrive.Wang and Qu outside of garden

The renovation of the Learning Resource Commons is part of West Valley's broader campus improvements funded by the Bond Program, including Measure C (2012) and Measure W (2018). These initiatives, supported by the local community, have provided essential resources to modernize the campus and enhance student services.

“This family’s generosity is a shining example of how philanthropic support can create top-notch experiences for local students,” said Melissa Johns, Associate Vice Chancellor of Advancement. “Arthur and Christina’s continued commitment strengthens our ability to achieve our mission and encourages others to contribute to student success.”
