Saratoga, Calif., November 25, 2024— West Valley College is proud to announce that it has achieved exceptional success in student transfers to four-year institutions, according to the latest data from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. Based on the 2018-19 cohort, the college ranks #1 in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley for transfer success and #3 statewide in three-year transfer rates.
The Chancellor’s Office new data dashboard Data Vista tracks the transfer success of students who earned 12 or more units, exited the community college system, and enrolled in a four-year institution the following academic year. West Valley College’s impressive transfer rate highlights its dedication to student success, academic excellence, and providing pathways for students to continue their education at top-tier universities.
“We are thrilled to be recognized for the hard work of our students, faculty, and staff,” said President of West Valley College, Dr. Jennifer Taylor Mendoza. “This ranking reflects our ongoing efforts to ensure that our students are not only prepared for transfer but also have the support they need to succeed once they leave West Valley. We are committed to helping every student reach their full potential and achieve their academic and career goals.”
West Valley College stands out in the Bay Area, with a remarkable 17% three-year transfer rate, far surpassing other colleges in the region. In Silicon Valley, the college continues to lead, reflecting its strategic location and close ties with local industries and universities. This achievement is a testament to the college’s innovative academic programs, strong student support services, and partnerships with universities such as San Jose State University, UC Berkeley, and Stanford.
The Chancellor’s Office data underscores the critical role that community colleges like West Valley College play in providing access to higher education opportunities, particularly in regions with a high demand for skilled professionals. As the need for college graduates continues to grow, West Valley College’s success in transferring students to four-year institutions ensures its graduates are well-prepared for the competitive workforce.
West Valley College provides a range of programs to support transfer students, including personalized counseling, academic advising, and strong university partnerships. The college offers Transfer Admission Guarantees (TAGs) with select University of California (UC), Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU), private, and out-of-state universities, ensuring priority application review, early admission notification, and guidance on major prep and GE courses. Additionally, West Valley offers 32 Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs)—more than any other college in the South Bay—guaranteeing a pathway to the California State University (CSU) system. Students earning an AA-T or AS-T degree are guaranteed admission to a CSU campus with junior standing and priority consideration for admission to similar programs across the system.
“We are incredibly proud of our students’ accomplishments,” added Dr. Taylor Mendoza. “These rankings are not just about numbers—they represent the dreams and aspirations of our students as they take the next step toward their futures. We are excited to continue providing a pathway to success for students throughout the region.”
