We are pleased to announce that West Valley College is now offering free access to Aira! Aira is an app that provides on-demand, remote visual interpreting to support your independence and efficiency. You can download the Aira app, tap a button, and you will connect instantly with a professional visual interpreter. They will then use your phone’s camera to assist you with any task you like, by navigating, reading aloud, and describing. At West Valley College, we see Aira being especially useful for tasks like reading menus, textbooks, homework assignments, and finding classrooms around campus.

How do I get started?

Then, tap the “Call Aira” button and connect instantly.

You can also use the “Access AI” feature on the bottom menu to upload or take a photo, and then get an instant AI description. Some popular uses of Access AI are taking photos and getting descriptions of printed menus, signs on public transit, and labels.

Aira is available for use on campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You never need to make a reservation—just call whenever you need assistance. If you need support while using Aira, contact [email protected]
