Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Practicum

The West Valley Mission Community College District is offering Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Practicum for faculty, which is open to full and part time faculty members from both campuses. The practicum will be a two-semester training, including large group sessions, cohort meetings, and individual consultations.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a scientific framework for guiding educational practice that provides flexibility in learner representation, demonstration, and engagement constructed on insights from the learning sciences and innovative uses of digital technology. In addition, UDL reduces barriers in instruction, provides appropriate accommodations, supports, and challenges, and maintains high achievement expectations for all learners. Students can engage, demonstrate, and express their learning individually based on their unique strengths and cultural context.  The UDL practicum will explore and implement practical applications of UDL to apply teaching and learning methodologies that accommodate student’s cultural backgrounds and experiences ultimately providing opportunities for the success of all learners. The time commitment for participation in the UDL practicum is to engage in sixteen synchronous sessions (see below for dates) and a one-hour consultation during Fall 2023 and Spring 2024. In addition to this time commitment, you will be expected to deliver documentation on how you will adopt UDL practices into your future curriculum and instruction. The time estimate for both semesters is 30 hours total.  Faculty will receive a stipend, either a flat rate or based off your current pay rate (step/column).
