Imagery is an essential component of West Valley’s identity. The goal is to show audiences an authentic view of the college and the experiences of students, faculty and staff, and community members.
Consistently applying West Valley's three points of view in photos and videos will help audiences recognize West Valley, elevating the college’s image.
Avoid using stock imagery, especially stock imagery of people.
Points of View
1. People: A Close Community
Images of people should evoke feelings of a warm, welcoming, close-knit community. Portraits should reveal an individual’s unique personality in an academic or professional context. Rather than focusing on West Valley's natural setting, the context of portrait imagery should give a sense of the person and what is important to that individual.
2. Place: Modernity Meets Nature
Immersive images of students, faculty and staff learning and teaching inside campus buildings set in West Valley's natural surroundings should evoke quintessential California style: modern, cutting-edge facilities balanced with the tranquility of stunning natural beauty. Showing only the college's park-like setting is half of the visual story.
3. Programs: Growth and Movement
To evoke the feelings of personal and professional growth and the forward momentum education provides, imagery of West Valley's academic programs should show students, faculty and staff members in action, doing, teaching, learning in a range of classroom settings. Think expansive blue sky, upward angles, kinetic activity and hopeful postures.
