Colegas Scholarship
The Colegas scholarship promotes academic excellence in students from historically underserved communities. The Colegas scholarship ($1,000) is funded through donations from West Valley College staff, faculty, and administrators. Colegas recognizes deserving low-income students who demonstrate academic ability, cultural awareness, and a commitment to service and leadership in underpriveleged communities.
- Major: Any
- Minimum GPA: 2.5
- Minimum Units Enrolled: Part-time (6+ units)
- Eligibility includes continuing or transferring students
- Indicate personal experience and ability to navigate culturally diverse settings.
- Demonstrated commitment to education (e.g., first generation high school graduate or college student).
- Preference is given to low-income students and/or students who are involved in making a difference with their family (e.g., caregiving, language translation, or other responsibilities}, a historically underserved community (e.g., volunteer work}, or other organizations (e.g., church involvement).
La Beca Colegas
La beca Colegas promueve la excelencia academica entre estudiantes de comunidades hist6ricamente desatendidas. La beca ($1,000) se financia a traves de donaciones del personal, profesores y administradores de West Valley College. Colegas reconoce como merecedores de la beca a estudiantes de bajos ingresos que demuestren capacidad academica, conciencia cultural y compromiso con el servicio y el liderazgo en comunidades desfavorecidas.
- Especializaci6n: abierta a todas las carreras o especializaciones
- Promedio minima: 2.5
- Unidades minimas: tiempo parcial (6+ unidades)
- Son elegibles para obtener la beca los estudiantes que continuan sus estudios o se trasladan a otras universidades
- Experiencia personal y capacidad de actuar en entornos multiculturales.
- Compromiso academico (p. ej., graduados de la secundaria o estudiantes universitarios de primera generaci6n).
- Se dara preferencia a estudiantes de bajos ingresos y/o estudiantes que se empenen en marcar la diferencia en su familia, en comunidades hist6ricamente marginadas o en otras organizaciones a traves de diferentes servicios (p. ej., cuidado de personas, servicios de traducci6n, servicio voluntario, participaci6n en actividades culturales o religiosas).

Past Events
This summit is an annual event to invite Latinx-identified high school students to campus to learn about programs and support specifically for Latinx students at West Valley College. There were groups of 5-15 students from each of numerous area high schools and their school counselors.
