Program Information
As an assistant to a court or deposition reporter, a scopist edits and proofreads legal transcripts. This Certificate of Achievement is designed to provide vocational skills to anyone interested in a career of assisting court reporters by note reading, transcribing, or computer scoping. Scopists may work at home, in a court reporter's office, or at a courthouse. All the work is completed using computer software that can easily be transferred via online services. This field provides flexibility and the training is short term.
The Court Reporting Program at West Valley College offers access to an array of high-paying, top-skilled career opportunities in computerized reporting. West Valley College is the only community college in the South Bay that offers court reporting, and in the last twenty years, the California Certified Reporters' Board has licensed hundreds of West Valley College court reporting students who now earn high incomes working in courtrooms and deposition chambers throughout the world. All students in the program are trained by innovative techniques and on state-of-the-art equipment, so that each student can meet and champion the challenges in he legal, medical, and educational world leading to rewarding careers today and tomorrow. Students in the program can acquire an A.S. degree or a Certificate of Achievement.
