Public Forum on the West Valley College Solar Energy Project - December 2, 2009
Community Input Needed on West Valley College's New Solar Project
Instead of cars, rows of solar panels may soon fill a parking lot at West Valley College in Saratoga. The Clean Renewable Energy Bonds (CREB) section of the IRS has notified West Valley that it's eligible for low cost financing to install a solar electrical system. Initial estimates predict that this one megawatt solar panel array would cover 150,000 square feet of parking lot 2, (adjacent to Allendale Avenue), generate 31% of the College's electrical needs and save the College approximately $600,000/year.

This project is part of the District's efforts to embrace sustainability practices, respond to state greenhouse gas reduction mandates, be fiscally prudent stewards of the taxpayers' investment, and incorporate green technology in the curriculum.
Summer College for Kids / Olympiad of the Arts
 •  College for Kidsopens in a new window started 14 years ago in response to creative teachers and parents in Saratoga Union School District's GATE Program, who wanted to stretch their students' imaginations and intellects over the summer.
 •  Olympiad of the Artsopens in a new window recognizes the outstanding creative and performing talents of college and high school students in Santa Clara County each spring and encourages their continued study and growth in the arts.
