Sexual assault violates a person in many ways and happens when a person is forced or manipulated into an unwanted sexual encounter. It is not motivated by sexual desire, but the need to control, humiliate and harm. Sexual assault covers a broad range of acts that include, but are not limited to: rape by one or more persons, statutory rape, indecent exposure, incest, unwanted sexual contact, marital or partner rape, dating violence, voyeurism, lewd or lacivious acts upon a child, child molestation, oral copulation, sexual exploitation, and sexual harassment. Sexual assault abuses a person not only physically, but emotionally and mentally, and shatters a person's trust and sense of safety.
