Sexual assault violates a person in many ways and happens when a person is forced or manipulated into an unwanted sexual encounter. It is not motivated by sexual desire, but the need to control, humiliate and harm. Sexual assault covers a broad range of acts that include, but are not limited to rape by one or more persons, statutory rape, indecent exposure, incest, unwanted sexual contact, marital or partner rape, dating violence, voyeurism, lewd or lacivious acts upon a child, child molestation, oral copulation, sexual exploitation and sexual harassment. Sexual assault abuses a person not only physically, but emotionally and mentally, and shatters a person's trust and sense of safety.
West Valley College is compliant with the Campus SAVE Act of 2014.
While sexual assault must also be documented in the county in which it occurred, West Valley Student Health Services offers free counseling for any and all sexual assault concerns as well as a list of local resources below.
